  • How much will it cost to call?

    Localphone charge a very low per-minute rate to connect your call internationally. This charge will be deducted from your pre-paid credit.

    As the call is routed through local numbers your mobile provider may charge you for the cost of a local call, depending on your tariff.

    The current Localphone rates can be found in the app or on our website.

  • Can I make a free call?

    If you’re a new customer your first call is free. If you’ve got a free call you will see “FREE” on the account bar within the app.

  • Can I use the app abroad?

    The best way to use our app when you’re abroad is to call using the WiFi mode. Make sure that you switch off 3G in your phones settings so you don’t pay any roaming charges. If you dial using local call mode you’ll pay your carriers roaming charges so it’s best to avoid this.

  • Do I need a special firmware to run the app?

    Our iPhone app requires OS4 or later to run.

  • How do I add a contact?

    You can add a contact by using the “Add contact” button in the Contacts tab, at the top-right of the screen. Or, if you have dialed a number using the Keypad, there is the option to add this as a contact before or after you have made the call.

  • How do I add credit?

    Unfortunately we're unable to link directly to our payment site from the application due to App store policy.

    To top-up your account please go to www.localphone.com/cart

    We recommend setting up auto top-up so that your balance will re-charge automatically when your credit runs low.

  • How do I add one of my existing iPhone contacts to my Localphone contacts?

    Tap on the + sign at the top right of the contacts tab and choose “Import iPhone Contact”. Tap on the friend you wish to add. If your friend’s number is not saved in an international format you will be prompted to add the international dialing prefix and country code to the number before it is added to your Localphone contacts list.

  • How do I an uninstall the app?

    The app can be uninstalled from your iPhone at any time by the usual means. If you reinstall the app after deleting it from your phone you will be required to complete the set up process again.

  • How do I delete a contact?

    Click the blue arrow to the right of your contact. Next, click on the “Edit” link in the top right for the option to amend or delete your contact.

  • How do I earn bonus credit?

    Click on the Share button in the app to tell friends. For each friend who clicks your link and then makes an order you get bonus call credit. We’ll give you 10% of the amount your friend spends in their first 90 days.

  • How do I make a call?

    Making a call with the Localphone app is really easy, just tap on one of your contacts or dial a number directly from the the app keypad. The app will use the iPhone to call a local area number that will connect you to your contact.

    The app is completely free to download. Charges will only apply when our calling and SMS services are used within the app.

  • The app says my country is not supported?

    This version of the app will only work in countries where we can assign local access numbers. Unfortunately the app is not available in certain countries at the current time.

  • What does it cost to call?

    We don’t have any hidden charges so you just pay our low rates for calling internationally.

    If you’re using LOCAL calls mode you’ll also pay your phone provider whatever it normally costs to call a local number. These calls are usually included free as part of your plan.

    If you call using WiFi / 3G calls mode there are no local charges to pay your operator.

  • What happens if I change my SIM card?

    If you change your SIM card you will be requested to complete the set up process again. Access codes will then be re-generated based on your new SIM card country and you will be able to make cheap local calls.

  • What’s LOCAL calls?

    When you’re in this mode your calls will be made using a local access number. Because the calls are connected through your network operator you can call even when you don’t have Internet connection.

  • What’s WiFi / 3G calls?

    When you’re in this mode your calls will be made using your Internet connection. That means you won’t have to pay your phone provider for the cost of a local call. Make sure you have a good WiFi / 3G connection before switching to this mode.

  • Why can’t I change the location of my access numbers?

    The area code for your local access numbers will be set and locked when you install the app for the first time. If you have a town or city set on your Localphone account in the country where your SIM is registered we’ll use that. If you don’t, we’ll assign a popular destination for you.

  • Why can’t I log in to the app using a different Localphone account?

    The app is designed to be unique to your account. You will be asked to link your iPhone number to your account when you install the app. For increased security we only allow one iPhone to be linked to your account at any one time. You will only be able to log in to the app with the Localphone account your iPhone is registered with.

  • Why is my app location different to what is set on the website?

    When you install the app your town and country will be set according to your Localphone account settings. If the country on your Localphone account does not match the detected SIM country on your iPhone we will assign the most appropriate town based on your SIM location.

    Calls made using the iphone app will then be routed through local numbers in the town or city specified.

  • Will the call use WiFi or 3G?

    When you’re in WiFi / 3G calls mode the call will be made using your WiFi connection if available. If no WiFi connection can be found the call will be made using 3G.
